Jack Meijer, a redshirt junior at Ole Miss and a two-time NCAA Division 1 cross country finalist at Wisconsin, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss returning to the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational presented by Under Armour to compete Oct. 13 for the Rebels at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course in Madison. Meijer explains how special it is to compete at Nuttycombe and how much he appreciated the community support during his time representing Wisconsin. He also highlights how significant it is to race on the Thomas Zimmer Championship course and how much he has learned from his previous experiences to be able to share with his Ole Miss teammates. Meijer revisits a fifth-place finish Sept. 29 at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational and competing against former Wisconsin teammates Bob Liking and Jackson Sharp, who took the top two spots in the 8-kilometer race. He also reflects on a fifth-place effort Sept. 15 at the Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala., and analyzes how the chemistry and cohesiveness of the Ole Miss lineup has developed so far this season. Meijer is looking forward to Texas transfer Cruz Gomez competing for the Rebels at Nuttycombe as well, and examines how valuable the leadership and experience has been from teammate Cole Bullock, who finished 18th at the 2021 Division 1 cross country final at Oklahoma State in Stillwater. He expresses gratitude for the guidance and mentorship of Ole Miss head coach Adam Smith and speaks about why his approach to training and building team culture is a strong fit for Meijer during this stretch of his career. Meijer shares his excitement for experiencing a new postseason path with the Rebels by competing in the Southeastern Conference final Oct. 27 in South Carolina and Nov. 10 at the South Regional in Florida. He also reminisces about the challenges of competing in a pair of 10-kilometer races in an eight-day span last season and finishing 79th at the Division 1 championship meet at Oklahoma State. Meijer also explains acclimating to living in Mississippi, and compares it to life growing up in Great Britain, highlighting the red phone booths in both Oxford communities.
